TOEFL — Test of English as a Foreign Language
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a standardised English proficiency exam owned by ETS, most widely used for university admission in the United States and other English-medium institutions, scored on a 0–120 scale (TOEFL iBT).
The TOEFL iBT (internet-based test) is delivered entirely online and measures Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing in an academic context — passages and lectures are drawn from university-style content, so the test doubles as a preview of academic English.
Rough score-to-CEFR mappings published by ETS place roughly 42–71 at B1, 72–94 at B2, 95–114 at C1, and 115–120 at C2, though individual university requirements vary and should always be checked directly.
Because TOEFL passages and lectures resemble real academic material, extensive comprehensible-input practice with documentaries, university-level talks, and nonfiction listening builds directly transferable skills, alongside dedicated practice with official TOEFL sample tests.
