В чём разница между американским и британским форматом дат?

В американском формате сначала идёт месяц: June 18, 2026 или 06/18/2026. В британском — сначала день: 18 June 2026 или 18/06/2026. Для международной аудитории лучше писать название месяца словом (18 June 2026) или использовать формат ISO 8601 (2026-06-18).

Как произносить большие числа, например 1 500 000?

"One million five hundred thousand". В разговорной речи можно сказать "one point five million". Важно: после числительного слово "million" не принимает -s — говорят "five million", а не "five millions". Форму "millions of" используют только без конкретного числа.

Когда употреблять "a half" и "one half"?

"A half" — повседневный вариант: "give me a half portion". "One half" точнее и употребляется в рецептах, статистике и академических текстах: "one half of respondents". Оба варианта правильны, контекст определяет, какой звучит естественнее.

Как по-британски произносится 6:15 и 6:45?

В британском варианте 6:15 — "quarter past six", а 6:45 — "quarter to seven". В американском чаще говорят "six fifteen" и "six forty-five". 24-часовой формат стандартен в транспорте и военном деле.

Нужен ли дефис в порядковых числительных типа "21st"?

Да. Составные порядковые числительные с -first, -second, -third пишутся через дефис: twenty-first, thirty-second. Числительные с -th тоже: twenty-fourth, ninety-ninth. Но самостоятельные порядковые — fifth, hundredth — дефиса не требуют.
